A guide for grown-ups
What the Family zone is for, how it looks after your child’s privacy, and how to use it safely at home or in class.
What it’s for
Stories, a sorting game and things to make, about where things go after the bin. Every story starts with using less, then reusing or mending, then the right bin.
Most of it is written for about ages 5 to 7 with an adult, or 8 to 11 reading more on their own.
Gullbrae is made up
The town, its bins and its people are fictional. Their bin colours and routes are examples, not your council’s rules.
Check your own council’s binsYour child’s privacy
Children never make an account, and there are no adverts in the Family zone. When they play on their own, nothing they choose is saved. Setting tasks isn’t open yet. When it opens, the adult who sets a task will see the answers, your child will be told so on every question, and the answers will be deleted on the date that adult chose. Nothing is ever linked to your address. Like any website, we keep basic security logs.
What a task keepsHow we handle dataStaying safe
Activities use clean, safe things with an adult nearby. Children watch the bin lorry from a safe place and never follow or approach it. Real wildlife is left to trained people.
Eddie’s Scots
Eddie speaks mostly Scots. Anything important is also in plain English.
Facts and sources
The science in the stories links to its sources. The stories are waiting for an independent fact check. If something looks wrong, tell us.
