The story

Malik stands by a garden gate and points to an empty wooden crate blocking the pavement.

On his round, Malik noticed a wooden crate right in the middle of the pavement.

May, just inside her garden gate, looks down at the crate while Malik waits beside it.

May saw her empty crate had ended up outside the gate.

May points to a low stone bench inside her garden while Malik listens from the pavement.

Together they worked out a better place for it: the low bench inside the garden.

Eddie waits in the parked lorry down the street while May and Malik stand by the gate.

Eddie waited patiently in the parked lorry while they sorted it out.

The crate sits on the bench inside the garden, and the pavement is clear.

Now the pavement was clear for everyone, and the crate was kept for another job.

Malik: “The right thing in the right place makes the next job easier.”

Buddy points to the clear pavement while May and Malik listen.

Buddy showed off the clear path, all the way along the street.

Buddy: “Before we choose a bin, could we use it again?”

Draft, 19 October 2026. The words and pictures are not yet reviewed by an educator. The story follows the outline in our story guide.

The real-life bit

On bin day, keep the pavement clear, so people with pushchairs, wheelchairs or walking sticks can get past and the crew can reach the bins. Put your bins out where your council asks. Gullbrae is made up. Your council’s own rules are the ones to follow.
