At Bracken Waters, Leena showed Dougal and Zara a model of an algae tank and a sealed jar of tiny green powder.

At the distillery, Zara pointed from the jar of grain to a picture of a fish feed packet. “How can grain help make fish food?” she asked.

Leena pointed to three pictures. Suitable grain goes into special closed tanks, tiny algae grow there, and they become a small dried ingredient.
For grown-ups: A suitable co-product that has been set aside goes into controlled specialist algae growing, which produces a tested, processed omega-3 ingredient for fish feed made up by professionals. The models and jars are illustrations, not a recipe or something to try at home.

Leena held up the small jar beside a picture of a feed pellet. The algae ingredient was only one part, along with other ingredients.
Leena: “Tiny algae can make a useful ingredient. The fish still need a properly balanced diet.”

Dougal put one grain card with the algae tank picture. The other batches stayed apart, ready for their own jobs.
For grown-ups: This batch for algae is its own allocation. The other cards are different batches, not the same material counted again for feed or heat.

Back at Bracken Waters, they looked at the small jar under the picture of the feed pellet. One useful ingredient, one part of a balanced meal.
For grown-ups: Specialist omega-3 ingredient for professionally formulated aquaculture feed, not a complete diet.

The real-life bit
Specialist companies grow algae in controlled conditions, using a suitable co-product, to make a processed omega-3 ingredient for fish feed. It is one part of a professionally formulated diet, not a complete meal, and the sealed jars and models in the story are only illustrations. Gullbrae is made up. Your council’s own rules are the ones to follow.
