In class, Zara studied a card with a tank drawing on it. She noticed two arrows leading away from it, one to an energy cabinet and one to a field.

Eddie laid one long label across both pictures, as if they were the same thing. Zara looked at it and thought hard.

Amina held up a little model cabinet. She explained that one branch is biogas, which goes to suitable energy equipment.
Zara: “Can you show me how that works?”

Next, Amina picked up the field picture. The other branch is digestate, which has to be checked before it can be used as a suitable fertiliser.

Zara took away the long strip and put a separate label under each picture. Then she explained the two branches, and Eddie smiled.
For grown-ups: The two labels are: biogas, which goes to suitable energy equipment; and digestate, which is checked before it is used as a suitable fertiliser. They are two separate routes from the sealed tank.

Zara and Isla put the finished card on the shelf. Its two branches stayed apart, so everyone could see two different outputs.
Draft, 20 October 2026. The words and pictures are not yet reviewed by an educator. The story follows the outline in our story guide.
