At the bio plant, Zara and Isla opened a wooden teaching case. Two coloured strips led away from the tank picture, like two arrows going to different places.
Zara: “Can you show me how that works?”

Eddie tried to send both strips to the same energy cabinet card. Amina gently paused him before he finished.

Amina laid the amber strip by the energy cabinet. One thing made in the tank is a gas called biogas, and it goes to suitable energy equipment.

Then Amina picked up the field card. The other thing from the tank, called digestate, is checked first, before it can be used as a suitable fertiliser.

Zara put the two strips back where they belonged: amber to the energy cabinet, and teal to the field. Two separate routes, side by side.
For grown-ups: The sealed tank has two separate routes out. The amber route takes biogas to suitable energy equipment. The teal route takes digestate through checks before it is used as a suitable fertiliser on a field. The coloured strips are only props, not labels.

Zara showed Eddie the finished case. The tank had two useful branches, not one magic product, and each one went somewhere different.
Draft, 20 October 2026. The words and pictures are not yet reviewed by an educator. The story follows the outline in our story guide.
The real-life bit
A bio plant gives two separate outputs: biogas for suitable energy equipment, and digestate, which is checked before it can be used as a suitable fertiliser. A field is somewhere that fertiliser may go under professional care, and household scraps should never be fed to farm animals. Save good food first, and follow your council’s own rules for food scraps. Gullbrae is made up. Your council’s own rules are the ones to follow.
