Help Gullbrae
Six real-world missions for children aged 5 to 11 and their grown-ups. Each one does one useful thing at home or nearby, and puts a place in Gullbrae right.
How it works
- Pick a mission. Each has a task for younger children (about 5 to 7) and one for older children (about 8 to 11).
- Do it together, in real life. The grown-up notes on each page keep it safe.
- Press We did it to see that place in Gullbrae put right.
- Stick the place on your printed town poster, and fill in a record sheet if you keep a learning log.
The six missions
Mission 1 Pick litter safely A short, safe litter pick with a grown-up.
Mission 2 Save good food first Find the food to eat first, then caddy the scraps.
Mission 3 Mend one thing Find one broken thing and help mend it.
Mission 4 Reuse a tub or jar Give a clean tub or jar a new job.
Mission 5 Swap or give away Pass on one thing you’ve outgrown.
Mission 6 Sort the recycling right Clean, empty and loose, the way your council asks. Print your town
Town poster
The whole of Gullbrae, with a space for each place. Cut out the six put-right pictures and stick one on after each mission.
Record sheet
One page per child per mission: the date, what you did and what you found out. Ready for a home-education learning log.
After all six missions
A certificate to print and fill in by hand, for one child or for a whole group. It says what you did, not how well: there are no scores in Help Gullbrae.
A certificate for one child
Write in their name, then a grown-up signs and dates it.
A certificate for a group
For a home-education group, co-op or class that did the missions together.
For grown-ups
- Nothing is saved. There are no accounts, no scores and no names. Your progress lives on your poster and your record sheets.
- Every mission is done in real life with a grown-up, and each page says what the grown-up handles.
- Gullbrae is a made-up town. Your own council’s rules are the ones to follow.
- These missions are drafts. An educator and a fact checker haven’t reviewed them yet.
