The story

On the bio plant visitor terrace, Amina introduces Eddie to the route where checked fertiliser leaves the process.

On the bio plant terrace, Amina showed Eddie one branch of the process: the one where checked fertiliser goes out to farm fields.

At the farm, Fiona calmly keeps the field gate closed while Eddie stands beside her.

At the farm, Eddie thought the field would be ready straight away. Fiona calmly kept the gate shut.

Fiona carries out professional checks with a sealed sample while Eddie stays outside the work area.

Fiona explained that the fertiliser must be the right kind, used the right way, and checked. Eddie watched from outside the work area.

In the garden, Arthur and Eddie look at tall, fully grown plants.

Time passed. Later, in his garden, Arthur showed Eddie how plants grow tall when they are given time.

For grown-ups: This garden shows plants growing over time. It is not a garden where farm digestate has been used.

Fiona opens the gate and lets Hamish the cow into a later, ready pasture of grass.

Much later, when Fiona said the field was ready, she let Hamish back in to graze.

Hamish: (thinking) “Grass. Excellent choice.”

At the farm, Amina shows Eddie two separate stages: earlier work on the field and later growing grass.

Amina finished the lesson. First the field is worked, then the grass grows, and only later, when the farmer says so, can animals graze.

For grown-ups: The stages happen in order. First, checked, suitable fertiliser is used on the field by professionals. Next, the plants grow over time. Only later, when the farmer says that particular field is ready, can animals graze there. The pictures are reminders, not the rules.

Draft, 20 October 2026. The words and pictures are not yet reviewed by an educator. The story follows the outline in our story guide.

The real-life bit

Fertiliser from a bio plant has to be suitable, used properly and checked, and the farmer decides when a particular field is ready for grazing. There is no single waiting time for every field. Gardens and garden compost are different from farm digestate. Gullbrae is made up. Your council’s own rules are the ones to follow.
